Q. What is pari-mutuel wagering?
A. Pari-mutuel wagering
means bettors wager against one another in pools. It is the system
used in American horse and dog racing. For a detailed explanation,
see our Pari-mutuel Explained page.
Q. When can I place my wagers?
A. The Upcoming
Events section of our web site will keep you up to date with what
races will be offered and when the pools will open. You can place
your bets right up until the green flag is waived!
Q. What is “wheeling” or “boxing”?
A. “Wheeling” and “boxing” are
strategies used to wager on the exotic pools. Basically, the idea
is to increase your chances of winning by using multiple betting
entries.
If for example, you like the 24 car to finish 1st or 2nd, you can “wheel” him
in the Quinella with multiple other entries. It would look like
this, $20 Quinella wheel 24 with 8,20,88,97. This bet would actually
be the same thing as four separate bets placed at the same time.
The total wagered here would be $80.00. If the 24 car comes first
or second with any one of the 8, 20, 88, or 97 cars, then you would
have a winning Quinella.
“Boxing” works in a similar way. “Boxing”
is used when you place a wager on two or more entries in one race
and wish to cover their every possible winning order of finish.
Like “wheeling,” "Boxing" is no more than
making multiple wagers on one ticket. For example, if you were
to
"Box" three entries in a $1 Quinella, 20, 24, and 8 as
an example, the total cost would be $3 because you are covering
3 possible Quinella combinations (20/24, 24/8, 20/8) at $1 each.
So basically, if the race finishes with any 2 of the three cars
finishing in 1st and 2nd place, you have a winning Quinella.
